Props to SFVU - MRA Discount Shopping Program

Big thanks to SFVU. Placed my first order on Saturday midday and it was here when I got home today (Tuesday). Lures I got were about the same price as bass pro and $1 less a piece from cabelas sales flyer that also came today. Additionally though, with the free shipping, it was a savings of about 20%. Well worth it and quick delivery as you can see. Highly recommended.

Not a Liberty Striper But a HUGE Striper

This should be something to shoot for with the big Liberty strikers. look at this monstrous striper recently caught in Alabama. I can't find the article but I do remember the big Liberty 60+ pounder that an old couple found that DNR later said it just likely died of old age. Thought I saved a hard copy of the picture and article but can't seem to locate it.

Manufacturers (not March ) Madness.

Why do replacement parts never match up to original specs. I decided to work on trailer lights last week. After breaking lens cover I thought I would replace whole light kit. What a pain in the --- . First the bolts changed to metric, then holes did not match originals, then after cussing and busted knuckles the wires were too short to properly crimp together. Will fix that when weather warms. Next project was trolling motor receptacle ( which was fine ) I just thought it was preventative maintenance. After taking old one out, new one would not line up with existing holes for mounting. Ok just re-drill holes and secure with screws furnished instead of bolts, that's going to hold right? Go to hardware store to get stainless bolts. Done!  But wait there's more! Plug in trolling motor , won't fit, the pin configuration is different. Now have to go back to buy male counterpart. This has never happened to you, right? OK now that I have vented I feel better. I think I will tear my motor apart and see if there is anything I need to fix. NOT.

Opening Day Prettyboy-March 1, 2013

Shane and I had to scratch our itch yesterday for Opening Day. So, after a delicious breakfast at New Freedom Rest in Shrewsbury, Pa we headed off to Prettyboy.

It was about 830am when we launched and the water was a brisk 39.4 degrees.

We immediately headed up North to some of my favorite winter fishing spots. After 5 spots and 5 hours of throwing jigs, silver buddys, jerkbaits and c-rigs we had nothing to show for our efforts. It was about 130pm when we kind of put 2 and 2 together and kind of figured out that cold-stained water were not condusive to catching bass on this day.

So we headed south and tried a few more spots in clearer-warmer water. The water didn't warm much but it did get to 39.8. It was about 345pm when we hit a flurry of bass. I got the 1st, 17.5" sm in the boat and a couple casts later lost a pretty nice one on the way to the boat. While wallowering in my disappointment I hear Shane say THERE HE IS and I look back and he is fighting a pretty good fish. Ecstatic about his 1st bass we get a beautiful 18.5" sm in the boat. A couple of minutes later he hooks up again with an absolute GIANT and she comes unbuttoned close to the boat. We fished the area thoroughly for about another 30 minutes without another bite so we decided to head to the ramp and finish the day.

Opening Day results: 2 caught, 2 lost, 39.8 water temp, 8 hours fished.

We'll take it......

Bass Master Classic on TV

If you aren't fishing or can't this opening weekend, you can probably find time to watch The Bass Master Classic from last weekend. You know the outcome, but its always worth watching the on-the-water coverage, decisions made, techniques used, adjustments and the highs and lows on bass' biggest stage.

Watch it.
