I am amazed at the potential of this website. How it does and can help all of us whether tournament member or social member or just someone browsing the site. Thanks to all of the hard work that Craig Gordon does to keep it running and adding fresh ideas to to keep it interesting. But what amazes me more is how few of us add our years of knowledge of reservoir fishing or boating tips that could help everyone or anyone. With the cabin fever setting in,now is the time to start a blog or possibly add something to the forums section. It would be nice to read someone else's thoughts or tips to help ease the cabin fever blues. Thanks and Good Luck.

Thanks for the nudge Bob. I
Thanks for the nudge Bob. I have started a 2014 campaign blog. The focus will be on the changes Max and I will make to try to climb the success ladder. We'll report on our preparation, successes and failures, hopefully more of the former.
Umm Bob....this is a
Umm Bob....this is a competitive money trail right?.....doubt you will get any truthful advice. I fished this trail last season ( my first go at it ). I loved the experience but quickly noticed how secretive and how many bold face lies are told within the two trails. EBA and MRA. I totally understand this. I pretty much just "don't ask".
From what I can tell it's pretty simple..SPY, SPY, SPY!!!!
It cracks me up to see how anglers cover up their baits, lie about where, when and how they fished.....totally understandable with a competitive money division.
My point is.........if I was on top and had producing patterns and techniques that kept me in the money...I wouldn't tell you shit!!!
Love the division, the guys I have met that haven't lied to me are "good guys" in my book......everyone is fishing for info as much as they are fishing for that big bag.
Thanks Ralph for the reply.
Thanks Ralph for the reply. You are right this a tournament trail, so you probably won't get any hot tips especially from me lol. I was hoping just to get some other members to post. You have added a lot to the website without giving up any secret tips. Everybody loves fish pictures!! Someone could write about taking care of rods and or reels or just maybe that new product that keeps their boat or tow vehicle sparkling clean. I for one enjoy reading anything fishing related when I can't get on the water. See you on the water.
You should take a role call
You should take a role call Bob........see who is lurking.
The "secrecy" makes total
The "secrecy" makes total sense to me. Along, with the hiding of the lures. We are limited to fishing 3 reservoirs so anything "figured out" that makes one a better TOURNAMENT angler should be sacred, OR NOT? From personal experience, I have pulled up to one of the TOP contenders in our tournament trails and we started talking about the weather and he literally said "Hey, follow me around and let me show you some stuff." I literally trailed him on Loch Raven as he was pointing out to me how to triangulate areas that are his Hot Spots. I will tell you and so will Don K that I NEVER asked him to do this. It was just a generous move on his part, showing the classy guy that he is. I'm still scratching my head at his generosity and why he would do this. Maybe Don thinks like I do that, "Hey, I can show you this whole lake BUT you still gotta be able to catch em and that's where the difference lies." Or he is just one heck of a nice guy. I think the latter.
A few years ago when me and a partner split up I was determined to find my own areas. To really invest time and research in why bass do what they do at any given time or day. I'm confident that I have stuck to that. It's funny, I will find areas and ask myself "Self, I wonder how many people know about this specific area?" Maybe it's a rock, a tree, a ledge, a grass clump that I found. It's a feeling of having an edge when you think you may know something about an area that the majority of the field doesn't know.
What I give the Bertazon/Broadwater's, the Gangi/Kosdemba's, the Wisner/Wisner's, the Butch/Larry's, the Gordon/Wolfe's, etc the credit for is how these guys tourney after tourney are the guys to beat. Their consistency amazes me and to them I say GREAT JOB! These are just a few of the teams that make the rest of us show up tourney after tourney, year after year to be as consistent as they are. They set the bar high and if you have an ounce of competitiveness in you, you admire them for what they accomplish yet you envy them for being so good. They make me a better fisherman simply because I'm not a their level yet but I want to be....
Yeah "those guys".......hope
Yeah "those guys".......hope they don't chime in. This thread is for losers with cabin fever. lmao!!
hahaha.....well, lets both
hahaha.....well, lets both agree to work hard this year and give "those guys" some competition! Ralph, are you and Dale partnering up again in 2014?

As a confessed member of the
As a confessed member of the "Losers with Cabin Fever" contingent, I do have some thoughts on the secrecy issue. No competitive angler should be expected to reveal the secrets that make them successful, nor should they mislead another competitor. I would never ask for, nor would I want to have their secrets handed to me. It would seriously diminish the accomplishment if my team won a tournament using a specific technique and location that another contender provided to us. MRA top contenders have invested an enormous amount of time (decades) developing their formulas for success. However, as Bob writes, they can provide other helpful information about fishing, tackle maintenance, online tackle deals etc. I don't think any of our club members have lied to me about their methods, but they are not likely to share their critical secrets. In my mind, they have earned the right to protect that information. If, by some incredible stroke of good fortune, our 2014 campaign is successful this year, my blog on the subject won't be listing GPS coordinates etc. But I will certainly share the approach to practice and preparation that led us to be able to improve our performance. The "hard work" (if you consider fishing hard work) has to be put in by each of us.
