With both daily big bags, Rob Bertazon and Ron Broadwater claimed the 2013 Metro Reservoir Anglers Tournament of Champions at Prettyboy Reservoir on October 19th and 20th, 2013. This marked the first time the TOC was also won by the same team claiming the AOY! The Bertazon/Broadwater team took a huge lead into day two courtesy of a first day limit of 21.60 lbs. Their 11.06 lbs. on day 2 padded their win even more on a much tougher blue-bird sky day that followed the prior days overcast skies and brief showers. Water temperature was approximately 62-65 throughout with the reservoir at or just below full pool courtesy of heavy rains the prior week.
Rounding out the top 3, the team of Craig Gordon and Holden Wolfe took 2nd with their steady showings on both days for a two-day total of 18.38 lbs. Bill Constantine and Matt Elliot managed to hang-on to third after adding just 2.23 to their big day 1 limit of 15.45 lbs. for a total of 17.68. See Final Standings.
Below is the big fish of the tournament, a 4.86 lb. smallmouth caught by Ian Godwin.
Continuing this record breaking season, Bill Constantine and Matt Elliott captured their 3rd of our 6 regular season MRA tournaments - this time at Loch Raven Reservoir on September 28th. This is the first time in the history of MRA any team has won 3 regular season tournaments. They capped this feat with the heaviest limit of 8 fish this year weighing 29.27 lbs. Once again finishing 2nd to this team despite a 24+ lb limit was the team of Rob Bertazon and Ron Broadwater with 24.66 lbs. Placing 3rd with a 21.64 lb. limit was the team of Chad Wisner and Leonard Wisner. Full Results
This 6th and final tournament provided additional intensity as it determined the (AOY) Anglers of the Year champions with a handful of teams within reasonable striking distance to capture the title. Further, it determined the top 11 teams qualifying to fish the season ending Tournament of Champions. With the weights in and points totalled, the 2nd place showing of Bertazon and Broadwater coupled with the 9th place of Larry Barger and Butch Wilson enabled Bertazon/Broadwater to claim the 2013 MRA AOY. This may have been one of the closest AOY races in MRA history with the top 5 teams finishing within 8 points of each other. See AOY Final Standings Another noteworthy record for 2013 was that not 1 but 6 teams broke 100 lbs with their total weight from the 6 regular season tournaments. You can do the math; thats averaging over 16 lbs./tournament. Congratulations to all who joined the "MRA Century Club"!
Tournament 5 on the 2013 Metro Reservoir Angler's Invitational Tournament Trail at Prettboy on September 8th proved to be a continuation of the impressive heavyweights seen at the lakes this year. It certainly helped to be fishing with a family member on this day. The winning and massive 27.78 lb bag of 8 fish including the tournament largemouth lunker of 5.16 was brought in by the father-son Wisner team. The second place 26.15 lb limit, including the smallmouth lunker of 4.96, was brought to the scale by the Kosdemba father-son team. Upsetting this pattern, in third place was the team of Barger/Wilson with 20.11 lbs. Butch and Larry have been fishing so long together you would think they were related!
It's not often you see 3 bags over 20 lbs. on Prettyboy Reservoir which can be very stingy with fish.

Hold a midweek fishing tournament on the most challenging lake (Prettyboy Reservoir) in 100+ degree heat with lake water temp around 90 degrees and the result is the image below. Thats how many weighed in of the 13 that participated in the grueling conditions for the second 2013 Weekday Warrior Tournament on July 17th.
Congratulations to Rob Bertazon and Ron Broadwater who made it back-to-back wins on Prettyboy given they won the MRA tournament there the prior week and in similar fashion. Again, in the waining moments the team managed to upgrade their weight by catching fish near the boat ramp. These two stunning tournament wins along with a tree falling on their boat during a storm while practicing definitely earn them the July drama Kings award.
