For many years I used a pretty basic gray scale depth finder, which worked pretty well, or so I thought. In October I was surprised when my son Max, who is also my tournament fishing partner, presented me with one of the best birthday presents I have received in my 58 years. It is even better than the Crossman BB gun I received when I was 12. A new Humminbird depth finder with sidescan and all of the bells a whistles. Since that time, we have been learning to control all of those bells and whistles in order to make the most of the technology.
Every day on the water, I am amazed at what I had been missing by not having the best tools in my boat. Areas that we have fished for some time are now revealing themselves in ways I didn't previously understand. New areas are being presented to us with remarkable detail. Hopefully all of the new information will act to inform, not overwhelm us.
