Those of you that are the most familiar with the inner workings of the MRA know that there is a lot of work that goes into running the tournaments. For those of you not so familiar, it can be a very trying, lonely, and sometimes thankless task to serve as President even though it should not be that way! With the proper amount of volunteers, the work is easily managed and is not too difficult. Therefore, the first thing I want to do is thank Jerry O'Brien and Larry Bertholdt for serving as MRA President for the years of 2008 - 2009 and 2010 - 2012 respectfully.
Those five years served by Jerry and Larry gave me a chance to simply enjoy being a member of MRA and "recharge my batteries" having served the previous 10 years as President of the club. Larry and I had talked last season about whether he wanted to continue as President for 2012. I had offered to take over if he wished but, thankfully, he decided he had one more year left in him. Larry and I recently spoke about next year and I indicated I would be willing to serve, and he indicated he did not wish to continue.
First and foremost, if there is anyone who wishes to run for President of the club in 2013, please speak up now. In the absence of such a commitment, I am wiling to run for President provided there are sufficient volunteers available to aid in the operations and, more importantly, we establish a succession plan that ensures reliable and fresh leadership for the future of the group. I have spoken to some people already about serving as Board members for the 2013 season but I want to extend the invitation to all MRA members at this time.
Therefore, if you are interested in running for President, serving on the Board or simply volunteering to help with activities the day of the tournament (weighing fish, scoring, check-in, pictures, etc.), please add a comment to this message indicating how you would like to help the club. Together we can make it so that no one person has to do too much work and we can all enjoy the day.
